# Cash and Buying Power

Dream separates your funds into two balances: Cash and Buying Power.

Each serves a different purpose.

### Cash

Cash represents funds held in your onchain wallet.

You can use Cash to manage your wallet balance, transfer funds into Buying Power, and withdraw assets to external wallets.

Cash is separate from funds allocated to options trading.

### Buying Power

Buying Power represents funds available for options trading.

You use Buying Power to open options positions, and proceeds from closing or settling positions are credited back to Buying Power.

Funds allocated to Buying Power are managed through Dream's brokerage infrastructure rather than held as ordinary assets in your onchain wallet.

### Moving Between Balances

You can transfer available funds between Cash and Buying Power.

Moving funds into Buying Power makes them available for options trading.

Moving available Buying Power back into Cash makes those funds available for onchain withdrawal.\
\
Only available Cash in the onchain wallet can be withdrawn onchain. Buying Power must first be transferred back to Cash, and funds committed to open options positions are not available for ordinary wallet withdrawal.

### Why the Separation Matters

Your onchain wallet and your options trading balance are distinct.

Exporting your wallet's private key provides access to the associated onchain wallet, but it does not transfer Buying Power or allow you to independently manage open options positions.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.dreamos.app/balances-and-wallet/cash-and-buying-power.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
